Hello everyone,

This is my first post here at Blade Forums. I am interested in aquiring a good sharpening tool for SHTF situations. I would prefer it had the following characteristics:

1. Needs to be able to sharpen my Howling Rat (Swamp Rat), my Gerber Camp Axe, and perhaps a small pocket knife.
2. Needs to be portable and preferably light.
3. Needs to be durable/robust.

So what would everyone recommend? I don't need my knives/axes to be "shaving" sharp. Just sharp enough to cut para cord, skin a deer, chop limbs, etc. I would appreciate your feedback. :)

One thing that works great is a little waterproof sandpaper glued down to something you a carry that is flat, like the back of your signaling mirror. Lasts incredibly long, and puts on the fastest best edge.

I'll second the DMT Double Sided Diafold. I prefer the Fine / Extra fine configuration, but I'm sure others might disagree. The Fine / Extra fine config has worked for me for several years to do all of my sharpening, (except serrated blades,) at home and in the field. It even works well on axes and machetes, although I think the Fine / Coarse would be a better choice for them.

Fallkniven "stones":

Diamond/Ceramic combo: ceramic for quick edge refresh, diamond for heavier damage. Can be used dry.

Small (about credit size card), light, comes with a leather shealth.

i found a small carbide sharpener at lowes in the garden section. at first i thought that it would be only good for rough blades like a cheap machete. but then someone posted where they had bought a similar item that could hone a blade as well as sharpen a real dull blade, so i tried it out on a k- bar that was pretty dull, then i honed the edge on my air assault. hair popping sharp. corona clipper sharpening tool:
