Hello everyone,

just hoping for a little help on sharpening - I'm about to buy a pro-file stone, I want to sharpen my knives personally (Don't trust the local knife store, friend had a bad experience, and i can't bear to be away from my knives for long enough to send them to spyderco ;)

So, all I want to do with the pro-file is sharpen my spydercos - a dragonfly serrated, a dyad jr., and plainedge spydercard, and (soon) a serrated endura.

Does it make more sense to get a fine or medium grit stone for this purpose? Am I going to ruin my knives in the learning process? Where can I find out more... ?

thanks so much!

Adrian

Why not just get a Spyderco 204 sharpener? Comes with both fine and medium stones already, plus a nicely illustrated how-to guide and video (important if you're worried about ruining your knives).

Plus the angled stones will probably give a beginner better results than trying to learn freehand sharpening on your good knives.

Whichever you get, it's best to find some cheap knives (ie, some dull kitchen knives) to practice on first.

Acrollet - I would have to agree with Longden. The "Pro" file does require some prior knowledge.

Ok,

looks like I'll spring for the kit then... thanks Longden, thanks Sal! I love your knives, nothing else has that "right" feeling to it
