Hey all, I'm looking for a new guided sharpener, and I can't decide on the Smith's Stone 3 in 1 sharpener and the Lansky 4 rod turn box crock sharpener. I plan on using this sharpener in the field and at home, sharpening anything from pocket knives to survival knives. I'm going to have to carry it with me, so does the size of the Smith's really cause a hindrance to it's carrying capabilities?

Thanks for the input

Forgot to mention, my budget is about $50 including shipping and handling. Otherwise the Spyderco Sharpmaker would be at the top of the list.

I just bought a spyderco sharpmaker from ebay for $51 and change with free shipping.

Check out the Spyderco Sharpmaker before you dismiss it as an option. Compact for field use, easy to use, and does a good job on any type of knife blade steel.

This is a great video number one of four.

I hope this helps.

I prefer this over the Lansky and Smith (I sold mine). I have some much more expensive sharpners and stones but for the money and convenience I think this one is hard to beat.

FYI - this was the first knife related item that Spyderco ever sold. After sharpening so many junky knives I guess the boss decided he could make a better knife and the first Spyderco knife was released to lots of jeers from others in the industry. It was called the Worker. A wee bit of knife history.

The work sharp guided field sharpener sounds like it fits your bill...give it a look. I really like the one I have.
