First off, my apologies if this has been posted before ...

A good friend would like to get a blade sharpened. Do one of you forumites do sharpenings? Any recommendations?

Much obliged!!

NEW UPDATE:
Thanks much for all of your suggestions!
And of course, I didn't type my message up clearly. My friend is looking to send his blade to someone who really does good sharpenings, to give it that "scary sharp", "hair popping" edge. Any recommendations on that front?

For starting off you can't beat the Spyderco 204 Sharpmaker.

If you want to take it further, try an EdgePro Apex or Professional. Much more expensive but also much better.

I use the Spydie 204 for all my sharpenings.
Before, I used DMT and EzeLap, but they do not allow the blade-to-sharpening surface angle to be consistent. This is the case with Spydie 204.

A variety of good benchstones, or the sharpmaker 204 for the crock model.

Who's got the best price on the edgepro and syderco on the web?

I know I'll never find either around here, you would think knives were banned in Cleveland.

The sharpmaker can be found at 1stopknifeshop for a very reasonable price, just click on the store link at the top of this page. The Edge-Pro is produced by a very small operation and is only available from one source. Ben Dale is the owner and I'm pretty sure there's a link here. Go to the tutorials and FAQ's, and you should be able to find a links page.

There is a rich set of answers to this question, probably 2 per month, if you use the search engine provided. You'll get a broad perspective this way.

cpirtle -- Bayou Lafourche is $7.50 under 1SKS for the Spyderco. Mike/Spark may match prices.

JBoS6,
To answer your question, depending on who made the knife, you may be able to send it back to the manufacturer. If that is not an option, you may ask around on the shop talk forum. Any custom maker would be able to do it. Good luck,

The first knife was probably used to cut stuff.
