I am looking to upgrade from using only a sharpmaker system with diamond and ultra fine rods along with knivesplus.com's strop. Main items I have been looking at so far are edge pro apex 3, wicked edge pro pack 1, washboard system, and KME sharpener. Looking forward to your suggestions and help with making a decision. Thanks.

I have the Edge Pro with the Shapton glass stones and its amazing. I would recommend it to anyone that is serious about sharpening. I don't own the other sharpeners that you are interested in so I cannot comment on those. I would watch as much vids on each one and see which one fits you the best.

I have a KME and have been very happy with it. There is no slop in the system because the sharpening rod is inserted in a gimbal. The knife blade is held in a set of jaws which is easily rotated from one side of the blade to the next. There are a plethora of stones to choose from. It's made in the USA and it's so simple that you could train a monkey to obtain a razor's edge with it.

I absolutely love my wicked edge. I think it is worth upgrading it to the new arms and buying the low angle adapter. They aren't necessary at first but it is nice add on. You will probably also want a few different strops and the 50/80 grit stones.

I hear the KME really needs the base if you plan on using it a lot as it increases comfort immensely. KME used to use DMT 4in Diasharps but they switched to a different diamond brand more recently if I recall correctly, but if you want you should be able to use the DMT Duo-sharps on it as well as it's the same size as the dia-sharps but come in XXC-EEF so you have more grit options to expand on (double check on DMT's site to confirm, I'm going off memory).

Though honestly it sounds like you have a really good setup for maintaining your edges, you just need something to reprofile them easier in my opinion. And with that in mind I would be learning towards whichever system you think you be more comfortable with reprofiling a blade on. And preferably pick up some diamond stones for it if it doesn't include them to make life easier for that initial reprofile.

Picked the wicked edge. It seems like a way to get a fairly consistent edge without too much hassle which is important to me as I do not want to spend all day sharpening to get a working edge.
