Any of you have sharpening systems that you're particularly fond of? Specifically for dealing with SOG's AUS-6. I'd prefer something idiot-resistant, or at least easy to get the knack of, as I don't have much experience sharpening.

Thanks.

Practice my friend! It took me a little wile to get right! I would use a few junk "flea market" knives to practice on first so you don't ruin your SOG. You could try one of the guide rod sharpener's like a Lansky or DMT. That way it holds the angle for you. Spyderco "V" sharpener's do a great job and all you have to do is hold the blade strait up and down to the rod and draw the knife towards you. do a little home work and start out with a thin edged junk knife, you don't want to start with something to dull because it might be to hard for you to get it sharp. Start with a sharp knife use it a little to take the sharp edge off and then touch it up to sharp again. It should be easier that way for you!:) Good luck:)

Hi Arathil,

Chris has nailed it here. Get a several "flee market" knives and practice for several months before you start "practicing" on a nice knife. Remember, though, that the knives you pick up will likely have "cheap" steel, thus easier to sharpen than a quality knife.

Sharpening is not my forte, but my recommendation is to get a sharpening "system" that you bolt your knife into a holder and draw the stone across at a preselected angle every time. These kits should come with various grit stones for doing it right. There are several out there, but Lansky makes some nice ones. Some can be pricey, but is very much worth it.

Also, you may wish to check out BladeForums.com Links Page. Lots of helpful articles there.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.
