has anyone here used the sharpmaker and that razor edge system with the guide? wich one makes a better edge?

They all put a great edge if you use them properly. The sharpmaker works great if the edge is thin enough

Run a quick search here and you'll find all the information on the subject you can stand. The bottom line is that with most systems, the user is the weak link, or rather the most important one. There is no magic bullet although there nice tools that help improve your performance. YOU have to know what you are doing before you can get a good edge. Best of luck.

I am now using both systems. The Razor Edge System is quicker to reprofile a knife both the the coarse and fine stones are excellent. It is really the system you need to use if you want to take a totally blunt knife to a razor edge. On the other hand the Sharpmaker is really the system if you want a quick touchup. It will take a blunt knife to a razor edge but not as quick although the diamond rods would speed up the process.

I haven't tried the Razor's Edge system, but I like the Edgepro series of sharpeners and the Sharpmaker. Mainly I now use the Edgepro to reprofile as it's fast and I can quickly set and maintain an accurate angle. Then I usually put the final edge bevel on with the sharpmaker. So I may go 15 degrees per side with the Edgepro and then put a 20 degree per side edge on it with the Sharpmaker 204. Then I can easily touch up the edge with the fine Sharpmaker stones anytime I want.

The Edgepro can put a great final edge on as well, but I find it's more work and you have to be careful with how much pressure you use as you can easily fold over the edge.
