The angle adjustment moves up and down on a spring while you are sharpening?

Forgive me for not reading the first thread but, this lack of angle control on the forward and back movements will lead to an edge that has ZERO consistency at the apex not to mention the bevel faces and shoulder.

It looks like a well build device but I again see a geometry issue with the moving blade clamp.

Lastly, put some rubber feet on that thing so it stops moving around.

Jason,

I was baffled by that at first also, then I read some more and looked more closely. The angle between the arm and the upright stays fixed after he tightens down one of the screws. However, the arm can move up and down vertically. So the angle is fixed, but the height is not. It still looks odd to see it moving, but I think the geometry is correct.

This is a complex machine and I haven't figured it out completely yet. It's interesting for sure.

YES: It does need rubber feet, or a rubber mat! :)

Brian.

Bgentry are correct, the angle are locked and the edge will, in this threads videos, be flat.
When the sharpener comes to the belly and tip the guide rod move slightly down becose those parts are closer to the pivot point, this means that the belly and tip will get the same edge angle as the straight part of the edge. This solution is very good - and new. Congratulations for that construction!

In the first thread, the first video, the tool are making a convex edge and the convex sphere seams to be about 3 degrees. This comes from the spring below the pivot point and thatvthe pivot point is not fixed (locked). This is a new solution for to make, and maintain, a convex edge. congratulatulations to that construction also!

The Scorpion is a interesting tool. The constructor have thought a lot on his construction!

The best thing, in my mind, is the possibility to make a flat edge in the same angle all along the edge witout any change of the edge angle.

The possibility to make a convex edge is good - but not perfect. The convex curve is not fixed. This means that the convex sphere will not be a 100 % perfect sphere. But - in the same time I do not think that is necesarry, The Scorpion will make a good convex sphere.

The man that construct the Scorpion shall have credit for the construction he has made!

A well thought out design that addresses some of the challenges of rod guided knife sharpeners. I like the way the system has been built to compensate for distal taper; well done. As has been mentioned there's an obvious need for a none skid platform of some type.

I would be a little paranoid about the placement of my hand and digits relative to the oncoming sharp edge of the blade. I can see losing a knuckle or finger tip.

As someone who markets different sharpening fixtures I would be interested in price point on this tool. A PM is preferred.

Being an inventor myself I appreciate the effort you've put into your creation. Congratulations.

Regards, Fred

I like it. I think you've received some good feedback, most notably the name. "The Scorpion" sounds awesome.

I like your solution of clamping the blade at two points. Personally, I'd prefer the clamp to the table. I like that the angle will remain the same along the edge and differences in stone thickness are irrelevant.

It looks like The Scorpion can take advantage of readily available 1"x6" stones?
