Sharpeners?

I am in no way a sharpening expert, but I have come across a quantity of ceramic that may have use as sharpeners. I have 3 varieties. One is a ceramic disk shaped like a hockey puck but a little thicker, and the other two are doughnuts about the same size. One of the doughnuts seems to be a little courser than the other.

I am willing to send these out to the first 2 members of BFC to post a reply, and who have been here at least a year and who willingly share their knowledge on the forums. In return, I need an honest, specific evaluation of these items. The ceramic will be yours to keep.

Thanks,
Dave

You could pick up some inexpensive kitchen knives or a Swiss Army knife and try them out yourself. Good chance to practice sharpening too :)

Which variant of Sodium Vapor lamp? Some of them (particularly the HID) contain Mercury and it is released in Vapor form when broken open and also any absorbed or attached to a surface when warmed with friction (like sharpening) it tends to vaporize off again as well. And Vapors or Mercury are readily inhaled.

Just be sure you know where it came from and don't break a Mercury containing one open. Mercury, in this form is odorless, colorless and invisible. And it is also prone to attach to things it is attracted to. It has metallic properties as well as fluid properties and gaseous properties. Nasty insidious strange stuff. And a tiny amount can contaminate your whole house or shop without you ever knowing it. Spread by Vacuuming and sweeping and just simply walking around in it without you ever knowing it is there.
