sharpening 101 or faq?

Hello all, I have been googling for awhile now for a sharpening FAQ. I have never had to sharpen a knife before as I have never used the ones i own that intensely. However I can't seem to find any that are particularly newbie friendly and lay out the basics with term definitions. Any suggestions or reputable articles? Thanks a bunch in advance

Hardheart linked to Chad Ward's article, which I think is *excellent*. It's pretty long... maybe too long, but still excellent.

Steve Bottorff has a book, and a free online version of it that's very much worth reading. He and Chad each have something to add I think. ...and Steve's online version is shorter than Chad's.
