I want to get a sharpening stone for my new RAT 4. I don't have any any exp in sharpening, but I want a stone for practicality. I know there are different kinds of grits. If anyone could throw me a brand or name that'd be great. :grumpy:

1095 is a simple steel that responds well to rather ordinary sharpening stones. If you are confident in your ability to hold a consistent angle and don't want to thin out the edge of your RC you can't go wrong with a two sided whetstone, one at a medium grit, the other a fine. A Norton two sided stone costs less than $20.00 about everywhere and is great for beginners.

Yeah, an India stone will do the job and last forever. I've had the same one for 10 years now and it's still goin strong. I've done some reprofiling on it in the past. Ground a 110 down to a nub over time on that thing :p. It's a good honest stone for a solid price.

I have a Silicon Carbide stone here, that gets a bit uneven at one end.
How do you guys re-flatten stones? TIA

Where abouts inTexas are you from. There is alot of fajita masters here in the RGV. started out with a DMT double sided sharpener. Fine and course worked for me until I got the Sharp Maker.
