Sharpening a 940-1 with Lansky or Sharpmaker?

I'm considering a 940-1 and was wondering if the S90V blade steel will give me issues when touching up the edge with the Lansky stones or the Sharpmaker? Neither of my systems are diamond.

I'd hate to get a knife I couldn't resharpen.

thanks!

You'll be able to sharpen S90V with normal/average stones, but it will take more time than a diamond one would. Diamond stones make it quicker to sharpen such steels(as well as less wear on the stone).

Another suggestion would be to just buy a diamond set up. You can buy a cheap double sided diamond stone for $10. Couldn't tell you what it costs for a diamond set up for a Lansky or Sharpmaker, though. It's not necessary, but it is easier.

I have a 940-1 that I touch up regularly with the brown rods on the Sharpmaker. I give it 50-100 strokes maybe every two weeks or so. Takes 2-3 minutes and it's back to razor sharpness. I've learned from experience that it can be very time consuming to bring the edge back on S90V with the Sharpmaker, even with the diamond rods, once you've let it get too dull. On my new 940 I have not let it go that far, so touch ups have been easy.

diamond lansky should work fine, i dont see why not. Sharp maker should work great too, sharp maker iirc just does two angles and has a few different rod options, diamond, cbm, ceramic etc.? lansky does a few more angles but only comes with either the standard set or the deluxe diamond set.

there are better systems but those will work fine.

with s90v being high carbide it will take forever and would suggest diamonds so it wont take that long.

S90V is a bear to bring back if it goes dull. Whatever system you use, Diamonds are a guy's best friend. ;)
