Sharpening a Beard

Yeah, it's off topic.

At Blade this year, I got a RMJ Tactical Eagle Talon. Now I'm the kind of person that has to have a sharp edge on anything that I use; including tomahawks. I know several people around these parts have RMJs, and I'm curious how you guys have sharpened the beards on your hawks, or if you've even worried about it.

I've tried small stones (although they're not the best quality), and I've tried sandpaper, and a file (somewhat, I'm hesitant). It's just that the beard is so small that it's hard to get anything in there.

So, any words of wisdom?

I really hope you're not talking about sharpening your beard on a stone! :D
That's a pretty eccentric thing to do...

Round diamond hone would be your best bet, or a variable speed dremel on slow speed with a half inch sanding drum with 400 grit drum. The beard is sharpened on an 1.5" contact wheel at the shop.

You know, I never thought about the dremel, I'm gonna have to give that a try in the next couple of days.

Thanks for the tip, and congratulations on your first post. You're gonna accumulate a lot of them here. :)

RMJ puts 1/2" rnd x 3" edm-120 stones in their Shrike tomahawks. I've used a 1/2" rnd stone and they work very well.

The stone that comes with the shrike is great for edge touch up, but the stones are not shipped with the talons

Chef's steel? Or a piece of dowling, heck a wooden kitchen spoon should do in a pinch, then wrap some wet and dry paper or fine grit paper on it and there you go.

I think someone posted this before but it was to sharpen recurves.

Nice score by the way, between one of these hawks and a BM in the other you should be fit for any Zomalypse (Zombie apocalypse, trying a new word out).
