I have a Benchmade Infidel that needs sharpening. I'm not sure how to properly sharpen a chisel grind. Any pointers would be helpful and thanks.

I must have used the wrong term. It has a grind on one side only. Thought that was called chisel. What is the correct term and how do you properly sharpen?

I see this is called a single edge grind. Sorry for the confusion. Anyway, what is the best way to shrpen this edge?

you sharpen the side with the grind until you can feel or see a burr on the flat side (a small lip of metal hanging over the edge).

then you lay the flat side flat on a stone or lapping film glued to a plate and polish the whole surface.

after this you can strop if you like.

Mine's the same way, it's a regular hollow grind but they only sharpened it on the front side. I haven't gotten around to fixing it yet, gonna be a bit of work.

Please don't lay the back side flat! You will ruin the blade finish. Raise it slightly to remove any burr left from sharpening the front side.

Hey Bill, is there a reason Benchmade chose to sharpen these like this, is it ok to sharpen it "normally"?

I don't know! I didn't realize they were, until I looked at mine last night.
It mostly stays in a drawer with all the others!
It's OK to sharpen it normally, but I wouldn't try to equalize the bevels all at once. If you do, you'll see considerable blade loss.

I sell infidels in the shop I work at I think you got one with improperly ground bevels I do not believe they are supposed to be asymmetric.

well I have handled like 50+ infidels and as far as I can tell they aren't asymmetric edges on purpose. Most come nice and even But some do have a bit of a uneven bevel.
