I having the hardest time getting a good edge on my new-to-me camillus machax. I usually use a work sharp on most of my blades but this one doesn't really fit into the guide so use a stone and a ceramic rod and that did absolutely nothing. so I been using my work sharp free hand and have some luck but it is still nothing compared to what the work sharp normally does. I know how to use a stone and Ive used the work sharp free hand many times. Im losing my mind trying to put a good edge on this… been working on it for about 3 hours now...

it's impossible. throw it in a lake.

hope the moist bint doesn't throw it back.

I know it's not a kukri but close enough. I use a large wooden dowel or broomstick wrapped in sandpaper. That works great for Kuk's. If you want a convex edge....wrap the dowel with mouse pad then sandpaper.

i've used a sharp maker to put a good perma convex on my machax...

used the heavy grit first, slowly no heat build up, possibly used 2-3 belt even the first time

the second pass was 2 belt worth at the next grit level

finished up at 2000 grit and stropped to 12000? shaves. edge is smooth and glossy

best part is, touch up after that is mostly stropping

What's the thickness on that Cinci 'Chax? I've used my Regular WSKTS and the KO version on my Brute as well as my KB Machax; they both worked fine...you really do have to pay attention to the blade curvature, tho. Or crock sticks as others suggest....but three hours? Damn, you're persistent. I also noticed no mention of the imbibing of alcohol.....are you sure you're lubricated enough for the task? Everyone knows that sharpening is easier with lubrication.

it's in the DB :>

pretty thick; you've fondled mine :D

much thicker than the KaBar

its .25 inches same as the brute at least its .25 on the blackjack brute I'm not sure on the camillus. my brute fits in the work sharp but I have the first work sharp not the ken onion version.

me too... don't over think it. just do it :D

at some point, i'll have to get a real sharpener... so many edged things to maintain perfectly

also a gallon of paste wax :D

I had good luck using sandpaper wrapped around a wooden dowel..now i use that and a lasky puck works pretty good

I convexed mine an the cheap-O HF 1x30 belt sander and put a micro bevel on with my Spyderco Sharpmaker.
It's scary nasty sharp.

It's also worth noting, I used just the Sharpmaker before I convexed it and it worked well.
The Machax really does deserve a nice convex edge though. It takes it to a whole new level of performance.

You should be able to just remove the guide from the worksharp and freehand sharpen it. Just face the belt towards you and sharpen away. I haven't used the guide since about 10 minutes after I unpackaged mine. Just be careful so you don't round the tip off.

I haven't had a problem on my KaBar with a small 1" wide diamond stone. I just angle it a bit & don't let it very dull.
