Sharpening a combo edge Delica?

I'm having a hard time getting a good edge on the plain edge part of my Delica. I've tried my Sharpmaker and a Smith diamond tool. But, the short plain edge is a PITA to get sharp. I don't have that problem with my Endura plain edge or other knives. Suggestions?

One of the best knife sharpening ideas is to take a black magic marker Sharpie and blacken the edge of the blade.

Then sharpen it, stop and look to see where you are actually touching the blade with the rod/stone. You might have to change your sharpening angle or reprofile the blade in order to reach the micro-bevel which is the part just below the primary bevel (micro bevel is that does the initial cutting and on which you strive for a BURR). Stropping/honing also is a big help when sharpening.

I use the 40 degree angle on my Sharpmaker and sharpen both edges. I go slowly when sharpening serrated edges and use the corner of the rod. Slowly seems to let it get into the serrations. Hope this helps. It is a great knife.
