How would I go about sharpening the false edge on my folding knives.

I am particularly interested in my BM 886 BT. I reckon I can do about 3/4 of the false edge that is covered when closed.

Will my 204 sharpen a false edge with regular stones? If not with diamond stones?

If 204 is not good maybe another system that can reprofile. Prefereably a free standing one as I live in a rented apartment an cannot drill holes in anything.

hi andrew

sharpening a false edge is quite different than sharpening a regular edge. i advice you to bring your knife to a professional sharpening-shop in town. it costs little to nothing, maybe a buck or 2.and boy, do these guys know how to sharpen properly, you could never do it as good as they do.

quite a while ago, for example, i bought a dagger with one real edge and one false edge. i brought it to a local sharpener and the next day i came back to pick up my knife again and only had to pay 2 euro. (that's about 1.70 dollar......). they did a real nice job on it and the false edge looks exactly the same as the real edge now, sharp and smooth!

hope this helps

A Gatco or Lansky sharpener works the best, I wouldn't try it freehand. I would start out with the diamond hone first to form the edge. The coarse diamond hone will form the edge quicker. But if all you can find is the standard (not diamond) kit that will work too. It'll just take a little longer.

Sometimes I'm really tempted to sharpen the swedge on my S2K. It would be nice to hear from someone who's done that.
