Sharpening a false edge

Hello!

I recently acquired a CRKT ABC Hammond Operator's Model and would like to sharpen the false edge. I have access to a variety of diamond grit sharpeners and cutlery steels (no idea on the brands since they are not mine). I would eventually like to get a quality sharpener and any recommendations would be appreciated.
The false edge seems to be fairly narrow, so I do not think it would require too much removal of steel to get a keen edge. At the same time, I am no expert on knives and would like to get some advice before I do any irrepairable damage. Should I just carefully run the edge over some coarser diamond grit to shape the edge first, then finish with a fine grit? I also have a Dremel and a variety of sanding, grinding, and polishing bits.

Thanks!

Form that edge bevel just like you would form a normal edge bevel, just a bit more obtuse edge angle.

Coarse hone for edge-formation, followed by progressively finer-grit hones until you get angle and finish quality desired for the top edge.

Hope this helps!

Jason,
Welcome to Bladeforums.
If the false edge is fairly narrow, you might want to just put a micro-bevel on it to suit your needs. Not familiar with CRKT's H.O.M.,if it's a kydex sheath ya' won't have to worry about it,if it's leather beware of cutting the stitching when knife is sheathed.
As far as sharpeners go,EdgePro is the best,IMO.Kinda' expensive but worth every penny.
Anything you might want to know about knives or anything pertaining to them you'll find here.Prepare to have your hair blown back.If you don't have any, that's OK too.:D

Thanks guys! I've spent considerable time with a coarse grit sharpener and finally produced a semblence of an edge, but it is fairly dull. Unfortunately, my clumsiness resulted in a few nicks on the titanium nitride coating so it's a little ugly. I'm considering leaving the factory razor edge as it is to preserve its sharpness and use my sharpened false edge as a more utility-type blade for everyday use, camping, etc. I just need to get it a little sharper so it will actually cut and not tear.
