Sharpening a HDFK

So I just received my first CPK, which is a HDFK. I plan to use this knife quite a bit. I am curious about your experience sharpening 3V steel.

I have a Wicked Edge sharpening system that I will be using to sharpen this knife. In the sales thread I saw that the HDFK edge is sharpened to 18 degrees per side. That being said, I was going to put the digital angle gauge on my WE and try to replicate the current edge angle as much s possible. (I will use a marker to visually assess the angle as well.)

I'd like to hear your feedback on sharpening 3V as well as the angle to which you sharpen your HDFK.

Thanks in advance!

D3V is easy as hell to sharpen. Similar to W2, 1095 or other such carbon steels that are hardened properly

fun fact; the scallop at the front of the handle is designed to facilitate freehand sharpening

I don't have an HDFK ... yet ... hoping to maybe add one this Friday ... but D3V turned out to be pretty easy to sharpen not much different than my high carbon blades ... I don't think you'll have any problems.

I can confirm what all the posters above have said. Haven’t sharpened my HDFK but have worked with D3V on my EDC2 and another knife. Sharpening is easy and it responds VERY well to stropping.

Would add that the perfect grind and edge it came with makes the process even easier.

The HDFK is not 18 DPS it is 20 DPS.

I had a handwritten  note of the CPK sharpening angles somewhere but I dang seem to have lost it

I must go back to your sales threads, ALL OF THEM, in order to compile an angle chart of EVERYTHING you had ever posted for sale. I will not be too generous with that information but I'm weak and am easily prone to being bribed :D

I've beat mine through some pretty gnarly hardwood knots and there is no damage to my edge at all. So far, all I've had to do is strop it to bring the sharpness back. Until I get chips, rolls or dings in my edge, stropping will be way to bring back the sharpness!

I'm going to pick up a standalone strop so I don't have to use my WE to strop. I'd prefer to bring the edge back with a strop rather than my WE. I appreciate the feedback.

I have sharpened 3V before and had no problems at all. It was actually quite easy to do so. I imagine D3V wouldn't be that much different to sharpen as well.
