A recent thread seems to have stirred up a lot of PM/email activity. I don't have a problem "Helping" but this is what I dread when a thread strays (usually a non-regular) someone comes in and before you know it the cogent points are lost.
So, I want to try and sum up and clear up.
First and foremost, Hinderer's are WELL built Hard use knives - NOT the Hope Diamond. Nobody wants to FUBAR their knife let alone their XM, I get that.
There are lots of ways to get your baby back to "Oooh Ouch Sharp" Maybe the WEPS, SharpMaker, Send it back to the Ranch, etc.
Assuming you want to show the love yourself that means you are the one putting the edge back to where you want/need it to be.
In General terms I suggest a conservative approach and one that removes as little steel as needed in order to achieve the desired result. Lets be real, Why would you want to remove more of what IS essentially "Your Knife" than you need to? Exactly, you wouldn't.
I like the SharpMaker for minor tweaks and the WEPS for everything from tweaks to full blown reprofiles or edge repair.
My "Tips" on doing that are in several threads already searchable both here and in M,T & E. Many others more knowlegeable than I are there as well.
Bottom line - It's a Knife/a Tool - Use it and Maintain it and it will reward you with many years of dependable service and be there for you when you "Need" it in a form and fashion up to the task if kept properly prepared as it was when you got it and that was the core point I attempted to make.
I know Rick and Rob, Don't try and "Perfect" what they already did - You won't be able to and while that may be a "Blow" to some and their egos.....I hope they get over it BUT honestly I care more about the real owners of Hinderers and for them I say...
Keep them - Use them - Maintain them.
IF a properly maintained Hinderer ever fails you I will sing a Show Tune and post it on YouTube.
Later,
Rubi

I have nothing to add except the idea that someone post the link to the informative sharpening thread that is full of a wealth of useful stuff.

That way, in the future, when his thread is referenced, the useful info will be easy to find.

That should really be a permanent link as a sticky on the top of the page...

BTW - Just got a call from Kyle at the Wicked Edge Yesterday. As you know, I had a problem with sharpening short blades with the Field and Sport model. I sent it in last week and they sent me a new Pro base and arms yesterday. Awesome! Can't wait to get back to sharpening with the WEPS!

Nope. Not even the photo thread stayed sticki for more than 12 hours. The stickies give the basics, to avoid clutter, they live a lonely life atop the page.

I was he who asked for the photo thread to be topside 24-7, it was decided to let it free.

Like a true lover, set them free, if they return it's true love. With that in mind, the photo thread rarely hits page 2.

Well, today's the day. I'm going to sharpen my 3" on the WEPS! I've done a few knives and today I feel ready. Put a polished shaving edge on the Sebenza last night and I feel ready! Will go for 22 degrees. I'm nervous but I believe I have the skills now!

Almost exactly 30 minutes later.....

yeah, that's sharp.....

I order some 3M paper in 1500, 2000, 2500, 5000, 8000 grits to see what a mirror polish is like...
