Sharpening a Khukuri

I know this subject has got to have been covered a 1,000 times somewhere, but being new, I haven't found it. What is the right way to sharpen a khukuri? Stone, steel, Lansky type sharpener, machine? Or does it depend on the type/style of khukuri? Is there a technique to it? The blade is a little bigger than I am used to. :)

Any advice would be appreciated or just point me in the direction of a FAQ.

Many thanks.

I think there is sharpening info on the khukuri faq. Link below with my sig. Also a search on sharpening will probably turn up more than you want or need.

Thanks much.

Yep, that was pretty simple. Must be the Marine coming out in me. Brain dead. Who would've thought to look at the Khukuri FAQ under Uncle's posts?

Thanks again.

Semper Fi, just a word of warning about the Lansky. The guide does not work well with a khukuri. The blade is too wide and as a result the angle is likely much lower than what you want (even at the highest setting). The Lansky stones are ideal if you use them free hand.

Most guys around here prefer a convex edge.

Thanks Will.

I'll keep that in mind.

Of course, I'm not even going to ask what a convex edge is.

Time to find those FAQ's...
