sharpening a machete

what is a good way to sharpen a machete?

There are a few ways. This is a good listing of some: http://www.machetespecialists.com/mash.html (btw, it's on the first page if you google your thread title...just sayin' ).

The "Mill File" way towards the end is what I use but with stones. Basically, for big blades, put it in a vice, and work it over with a stone like any other blade.

What do you have for sharpening equipment? How you do it depends on that.

to put the bevel on or fix dents i start with a bastard file, then go to stones if i feel like it.

belt sander. i got a inexpensive[cheap] harbor freight 1 x 30 and it works great with some belts from lee valley.

I sharpened mine with a belt sander. Puts it sharp enough to cut paper smoothly. not shave hair but with a finer grit mabey.
