I just purchased a Queen Gunstock in D2 steel. Although I have been collecting knives for about 5 years, I am new to slipjoints. When sharpening time comes would a Spyderco Sharpmaker system work well? If not, what is advised? Thanks in advance.

First of all, congratulations on your new Queen! I hope that you like it! I have several Queen Stockmans, and they all had a pretty thick edge.

I don't know what angle they sharpen them at, but I re-profiled them with my Edgepro just to get rid of all the "extra" metal, and now they sharpen easily either on my edgepro or by hand. I find that they go dull very slowly, and if I keep on top of them with a ceramic stick or stone, it only takes a minute or two.

I took the main blade down to 25 deg included, and the others to around 15 or so. As you can tell, I like the little guys **thin**. But they cut like lasers, and the edge lasts for a very, very long time.

Good luck!
