how would one go about sharpening a recurve blade, such as the one found on the camillus EDC, or hawkbill blades like the LaGriffe? do you need circular rods, or can a flat stone do it? techniques please?

There's an excellent FAQ by Joe Talmadge on sharpening the Benchmade 710 recurve blade. If you do a search, I'm sure you'll find it.

My only custom has what you would call a recurve blade. And I have had great luck sharpening it on my Sharpmaker. I justed recieved the 204 on Monday, So I am still a novice, But I have been getting professional results. I couldn't be more happy. If you don't have one, I highly recomend it!

The main thing is, you'll need a sharpening stone that has a much smaller diameter than the radius of the curve. The sharpmaker is fantastic, and any system with small rounded stones will work well too (ceramic stick, v-stick system, etc.).
