No, I'm asking a frequently asked question, I'm not providing a FAQ.

Simple one, though: is it possible to sharpen a recurved blade using a narrow flat stone like a Lansky, or would the stone pretty much NEED to be rounded?

Thanks
Mike

If your stone isn't rounded you need fairly smooth edges on the stone. When I have not had a rounded stone I have often used the sides or edges of regular bench hones. Often I only tilt the blade slightly from running horizontal across a bench hone so that I am using the top-of-the-edge to hone with. This is fine, as long as you don't have notches and bumps in the edge of your hone. A round hone is smooth on the curve and is a natural. Spyderco triangular rods are intended to be used on the corners and are smooth enough.

K...anyone make rounded hones for use with a Lansky?

Thanks,
Mike

Make 'm yourself. Take a bigger bench stone and grind the sides off. If you have something that uses a grinding belt, do it with that. Much easier.

Personally I'd get myself a Spyderco profile.

I've sharpened my BM710 with a lansky and it came out fine. I don't know how severe the recurve is that you are sharpening though. Good luck.

I mentioned in a post awhile back about how the triangular Spyderco Sharpmaker hones will fit into an Edge Pro Apex. Works great on recurves.
