Sharpening a Scandi grind, any different then other grinds?

I have a Enzo Birk 75 scandi grind folder on the way. The only other knife I have with this grind is a Mora Triflex, which I have been sharpening on a regular diamond sharpener. The mora triflex is inexpensive and easily replaced but not so with the Enzo. I have seen some guys sharpen their scandis with a circular technique and then some just regular blade down on the stone and straight across. Is there a different "proper" way to sharpen a scandi?

Yep, just keep the whole bevel on the stone. :) if you go fine enough it doesn't matter what direction you run it.

I believe the circular motion is popular with the scandi grind. I have stayed with the tried and true edge first method but I think that as long as you're just removing steel to get the thing back to being flat with an indexed edge, the motion doesn't matter at all...I know it doesn't. It only becomes an issue in finishing off the edge where I think a few edge leading strokes would be good.

Scandis are simple to sharpen and sharpen well but not necessarily easy in terms of effort. However you will get good results if you keep that bevel flat...it was designed with that sort of fail safe in mind. Imagine it's 30 below, you've got a reindeer to butcher and you're knife is dull. You need a simple way to sharpen your knife without water, without oil, and without taking off your gloves.
