i have a tops cqt-304 that sports a modified drop point( i think) with a slight recurve. what would be the best way to sharpen said beast?

Sharpmaker edges, Crock sticks or dowel wrapped in wet/dray sandpaper. I don't recommend recurves on flat stones unless you use the edges.

I like to use slip stones. They are kind of a half round whetstone.

The sandpaper and dowel rod method sounds like your best bet.
