Sharpening a sword.

Good question...on my Criswell I use the Spyderco Profiles to put a sharper edge on mine....but a regular Japanese sword...like the Paul Chen Katana I just received, not sure, so I'll wait along with you to hear what others have to say on that score.

But on the Criswell I set the blade against the table and I run the profiles along the edge both sides....

Finish by stropping the blade on a long piece of leather glued to a board with green polishing compound on the leather, works well.

What type of sword is it?

maker/type/age/etc would be proper questions...

Robert, I quess I really didn't think this question through. I know there are some blades where you only want a professional to do the sharpening, etc. I have some modern blades, such as a Junglee short sword and my Criswell Wakizashi (Gary answered the sharpening question on this one) and I also have some khukuris that are 26" and 30" in length. I have no problem sharpening short blades but when it comes to these long ones my efforts always fall short of what I wanted, usually sharp on one part of the blade and not so sharp on others.

Hi!

We use a water grinding stone wheel with a diameter of 1.2 m. (the stone have the size from a 10 year old child). For polishing the sword we use some different methods.
