Sharpening a ZDP189 Delica SE

A friend of mine bought a Spyder edge Delica in ZDP189 and was wondering how to sharpen it with the steel being at such a high Rc rating and being serrated. I have a Spyderco Sharpmaker with the standard coarse and fine ceramic rods, and he has the Lansky crock stick setup with the fine and coarse rods so would that be enough for a Spyder edge ZDP189 Delica. He said that he will not really use it all that much but if he wants to touch it up would you recommend something more than the sharpening systems listed above.

The SharpMaker can handle it as long as he doesn't let it get very dull, but it requires a light touch and patience to get the best results. I find the Byrd Duckfoot very useful for restoring trashed serrations, so it might be handy on the ZDP if he lets it get dull.

Use the corners on the sharpmaker system.

Another option is to wait until it dulls up nice and then send it to Spyderco to resharpen it.

A ZDP spyderedge should hold an edge for a very long time though.

I used a Lansky system with all diamond hones to reprofile my ZDP-189 Delica. It was relatively easy to do and was scary sharp. I'd say that ZDP-189 holds an edge about four times as long as VG10 or S30V doing the same kind of work on a daily basis.

I don't think they sharpen SE blades.

How do you get Spyderco to sharpen a blade?

How much to they charge to sharpen a knife?

I contacted Spyderco about resharpening some SE knives and told me they did. I was happy to hear that as the thought of sharpening my dull SE ZDP-189 Delica brought me no joy. :D

don't mean to be rude, but why wouldn't they? They stand by their product and it's a knife they made. As long as you haven't modified it they will cover it. that's what keeps me a loyal customer.

They told me the same thing and when I got my native back the only thing sharpened was the tip.

Benchmade won't sharpen serrations but I hope spyderco would... I have no problem sharpening golden serrTions but the semi serrations are pointy and bardrto pull thru the sharpmaker
