For sharpening, I've used several different methods and I've never had a problem getting knives shaving sharp until I got my first chisel grind. I can barely get that to a working edge now  I'm beginning to feel like a novice again. Here's my question:

What angle on the spyderco sharpmaker is effective in sharpening the emerson mini cqc-7b with the chisel ground blade?

imho the sharpmaker, though it will work on chisel grinds, is not the best thing to use, for me the flat stones (ie norton fine india stone, like $8 or so works the best for me) work better, the angle isnt right on a SM, and while ya can adjust it by eye, and it does work ok, the flat stone used to create a burr, and then a steel or a pad like ernie reccomends on the other side of the blade works faster/better for me. really the best way to use a SM on a CG is to put the rod in the base to were the rod is horizontal to the base, and use it like a std hone, imho this defeats the whole purpose though, if ya do this ya might as well use a flat std stone, unless ya dont have one.
