My EDC knife is a Pentagon Elite II which I like as a defense knife that can come into use for ordinary chores as well and has a partly seeated blade for difficult cutting tasks. I have long wanted a sharper edge on this knife but have been reluctant to tackle it. Any advice please? Thanks

I use a smith's diamond rod pocket sharpener. I'll look up a link and edit it in in a minute, but it has worked great on all of my knives for the past few years. It is the size of a pen and fits in most little pouches. The sharpening rod has a flat side and a rounded off side. Use the flat side. Put the flat side against the original blade angle and stroke the knife away from you as if you are trying to strip off a thin piece of twig. Be sure to keep the rod flat on the original blade angle the entire time. Then do the same on the reverse side, but start at the opposite end. Just start at the top of the rod and work your way down. Do a 1:1 stroke and the blade will be shaving the hair off your a$$ in no time. Hope this helps, J.

Edit: found it, it is the second one down with the blue case and silver looking rod. http://www.google.com/products?sour...YE:en&q=smith's+diamond+pocket+sharpener&um=1

The thin skinny side is used to sharpen the serrations on your knife. Just put the thinnest end on the serrated edge and push the rod up until it fills up the serrated "lump" do the same for all of the little edges and then go on the back side and stroke the serrations once on the back to get rid off the burrs.

If you have never done this, you really should consider sending it in to SOG for a sharpening.........it's worth the trouble.

Hey Robbie, still waiting to save up to get your knife (revolver). It will be the only fixed blade that I will like to carry mainly because of the genius saw that is on it. He could also get a cheap Mtech and practice sharpening that so he doesn't ruin his knife, that's how I learned.

Batosai117, that is quite a compliment ! Thanks.........:p

Also, very good advice on the sharpening practice.

Oh and thank you. I messed up quite a few of my gerbers until I finally got my "skill" level up enough to sharpen my good knives, SOG and benchmade being the knives fortunate enough to receive my better hand at sharpening than my poor gerbers.

This is one of the things that coaxed the PE out of its place as my EDC. Almost as soon as I started sharpening my own knives, I learned how to put a shaving edge on most blades. But the PE is more trouble than it's worth to sharpen yourself; the tip in particular is just about impossible.

Thanks guys. So happens I am into Benchmade as well and a few Al Mars are in there too. I do my own gunsmithing and have for years which teaches you to practice and go slow. Stoning sears has a way to keep fine motor skills keen! I will probably tackle this new , sharpening skill first (diamond rod sounds good). I have been changing knives so frequently they never had a chance to get dull. With the work I do, I find the PEII to be formidable as a last resort BU weapon; good stabbing shape, good slashing and the serrated edge. To me, its the largest knive you can get away with carrying without raising eyebrows. I work the action an keep it "just right" so I can present the knife darn near as fast as an automatic. Have the Cuda Maxx too but don't like the action as well. As much as I love my fixed blades, the PEII is just a more practical EDC.

One question is it worth trying to sharpen yourself if a novice? Also, can you get the blades sharp using the Lanky sharpening equipment that takes the guess work out of the angle? I am worried that my hands might move a little and ruin the angle.

Thanks
