Sharpening advice

Hoping some experts can help me. I just began carrying a folder for edc use. I have been using a SOG trident I picked up at walmart for a few months, and I've never had a knife this sharp that stayed this sharp. A few day ago, I picked up at CRKT m16-10kz. The knife is a tanto style blade as opposed to a clip point, but I can't seem to get it nearly as sharp as the SOG? Might this be a result of simply diff feet style blades, grinds, or metals? Are there different techniques to sharpening different style blades? Might I just suck at sharpening?

Any advice would be appreciated?

If nothing is happening you need to try harder and add more lube

How are you sharpening? Freehand?

My advice is to ask in the maintenance forum,those guys have an answer to everything related to getting a sharp edge.

could be the way your sharpening it, blade steel, angle, etc
