hello folks, i am new to this forums but i would like to know if someone here would tell me the sharpening angle of the Cold Steel Spartan. And also, my Spyderco tenacious's tip broke not that much but now it is not anywhere near what it used to be, i pushed it hard against my skin and it would not pierce, i'm kind of worried this will be permanent. If it helps, my sharpening system is the "spyderco tri-angle Sharpmaker". Any help is very much appreciated.

I think you may be moved to the maintenance forum for this one-there are heaps of guys there who can help.

The sharpening angle is what it is, factory knives are hand sharpened on power equipment. I've seen everything from 10 per side all the way up to 30+ per side.

The broken tip can be fixed but you need a coarse stone. Many will say to grind the spine but I advise against that unless more than 1/4in of the tip is missing.

I would not suggest pushing any knife (point damage or not) "hard against my skin" because at some point it will go through and then you have a very different problem. I greatly respect knifenut1013's opinion, but I would go the other way. If there is not much broken off, it is really easy to grind away on the spine (even with the brown/gray rods of the sharpmaker in the grooves on the bottom of the base) to reform the point and blend in the repair. It will take time, but if it is all you have, it can be accomplished. If you had sandpaper to work with, that could increase the speed if you had some coarse grits.

i sharpen my spartan on a sharpmaker also, i find that sometimes ( not only with the spartan but with alot of knives ) you have to watch carefully that the edge is meeting the stone, take your time and go slow

and i agree with chapman on the tip part, if the tip is not far gone slide the spine down the grooves of the brown stones alittle just watch what your doing so you dont round it by pulling up
