Sharpening Angle for 110

Hello everyone I have just recently fell for the Buck 110 and I am using a Gatco system to sharpen the blade. I am currently using the 15 degree angle because the buck literature states that that angle should be from 13 to 16 degrees. What angles are you guys using to keep a great working and sharp edge.

Thanks
Chris

I do my 110 and 112 at 15 dps on a Sharpmaker. They don't get real hard EDC use but when I do use them, that bevel angle seems to work pretty well for both cutting ability and edge retention.

I am sorry I no to much help.I tryied the Lansky and the angle thing.Could
no get the results I was after. So I went back to the stones.I use the Marker
on the edge and then put it on the stone to see if the angle is good.
It seems the angle in the Teen's does work best.

Stone man here too -- wouldn't know what angle to use... I'll have to try that sharpie idea sometime.

Well Woody I don't know what you used on Decaff's rubber Bucky
but it was sharp when I got it from you.

Woody ,A friend showed it to me and it helped me a lot.I can't get the
Clamp on the knife at the same place with the Lansky system. But the
marker lets you see where you are working on the blade.

Hey Jeff,

Usually, all I need is a stone... it is much easier when working from a decent consistent edge, factory, or otherwise. Takes a little practice, it's a combination of proper pressure, angle, feel and sound as ya work the blade on the stone. On Dave's rubber bucky which I happily put to work peeling wall paper (amoung other things), I first hit the blade with my washita stone.

Have had this same stone since the 70's:

Was not happy with the forward part of the blade... knowing it was going to a fellow buck nut, well, tried out my new lansky diamond rod... couple of free hand passes to clean up the edge, then back to the stone one more time.

Every Buck deserves a good edge :)

i learned to free hand my self then got to studying what i could find on sharp edge years ago in the mid 70's
consistancy of angle seems to be the MOST important next makeing the micro edge more consistant...
i have a full set of buck stones but i have gone to flat plate glass and finer digrees of wet sand paper...
i use my finger on the back side to hold the angle consistant ...long working wide angle or meat cutting finer angle...
for frishen up on a meat edge i have a tungston rod with a handle i put on it and i use it like a micro steel for light touch up for more then that on a working edge i use a high voltage ceramic fuse case...
i once shaved with my 124 on a 5$ bet...i find i lacks fine hand control so cut my self to much to do that again..

Thanks for the info everyone. I have not tried to hand sharpen yet but I am interested in learning.

WTB...WTF!?!?! was my reaction when I first read your post with Chinese Math in it...(http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4932376&postcount=6).
If I read this right, you take the "Buck stated angle of the edge" and divide it in half for the Lansky or Gatco???

And, you gents best be cool with what you say about Messy's sister ;)

Gans, lucky man, how do you find your women? Do you promise to show them your knife collection? especially your folder and what angle you get on it??

Best,
Haebbie
