I have a dull one and not great at sharpening but gonna try to sharpen this XM-1. Does anyone know the angle that i should use for my attemp?

I have a Sharpmaker with the med and fine rods but I dont think it will work so I just ordered the DMT Aligner kit to use. It has the extra coarse, coarse, fine and extra fine diamond plates so it should work once i know what angle i should set it at.

Thanks in advance for any help!!

P.S. if i can get it done right, I will try a few others that I have no idea on angle! :)

the DMT aligner seems to be a guide stone system. Just pick whichever stone you with to use and put the knife into the aligner. Then, starting at the lowest angle, find the lowest possible angle that makes it so that there is no shadow between the edge and the diamond stone. This is the angle you should sharpen at. Alternatively, just sharpen freehand, and use the same method that I described above, minus the sharpening jig.

That is good thinking! Thanks! If I wasnt such a sharpening noob, I might have thought of that! :)

I was wondering after I originally posted this about how I was going to find the angles for the other blades that need sharpening! I guess I was kinda thinking about the angle more in case there is a better angle to sharpen to that would make this thick knife, about 3/16" or other better cutters! I read too much where folks redo their knife's angles to improve them! LOL
