I have an Endura 4 in ZDP-189, what angles should I sharpen it to? It's far from dull, but I want to maintain the great factory edge. I have a sharpmaker coming my way, what setting would work best? Thanks.

Assuming that it is a plain edge and not serrated, I've been told that Spyderco knives come with the edge profile at 20 degrees each side(40 degrees total). So you should use the 40 degree setting on the Sharpmaker.

I'm a newbie myself in regards to such things and others here might be able to give you better direction.

Enjoy your new knife.

Spyderco tries for 15 degrees per side, but each knife is sharpened by hand so the angle will vary. I've had everything from about 10 degrees per side to 16-17 degrees per side.

i've gottn 10 degrees per side on my s90v manix and about 30 degrees per side on my endura so.

as for the sharpening, i'd go with the 30 degrees inclusive on the sharpmaker, zdp should hold that with ease

It varies knife-to-knife since they're all hand-done. Some of mine have come between 30 and 40 while others have come at over 50.

I think in the Sharpmaker CD they talk about a ~30degree inclusive backgrind design for the blades. How they finish them off probably varies depending on the knife design.

I would use the 40 for touch ups and 30 for maintenance on the bevels. That works well for my Delicas. Although you could probably go lower on the angles with ZDP.
