i went to the badmojo site and read up on the sharpening methods used to sharpen the busse bm. i do not know much about what the terminlogy for flat ground and convex ground means, so can anyone please help me out with the sharpening of my knife? i noticed that while holding the knife and looking down the blade the left side has a very shallow grind while the right side has a wider grind, what methods have you used to sharpen these types of edges? wouldnt the side with the larger bevel eventually wear through to the other side of the blade and thus become more and more into a chisel grind than an asymetrical edge? also lets say that you accidently cut through some really tough material like a nail, how doy you go about removing the dent without adversly changing the blade profile? also can you clarify what this part of badmojo sharpening method techinique is:
Method 1
How do you sharpen the Asymmetrical Edge? To maintain the asymmetrical edge, the flat and convex sides should be sharpened in different ways. To sharpen the flat side you need to use a ceramic rod and draw the knife towards you, edge away from you. To sharpen the convex side you can you a leather strop. Sharpening the knife in this way will realign the edge without removing as much metal.
HUH? I really love the knife and would like to keep the blade profile in its original geometry for as long as possible, your input would be much appreciated. thanks

Hey Reggie! Use the search feature on the toolbar at the top of the page and enter asymetrical sharpening. There is a load of threads that offer techniques. I for one mainly use a strop. If I ding the edge I use a either a ceramic rod (sharpmaker) or a metal one. Glad to see you're enjoying your Mistress!

sharpen? Huh? When the knife goes blunt you just sell it and get a new one.

Hey rctk1,

Here's a link to an old post from Cliff Stamp. He provides a pic of the different edge profiles that is very helpful.

For dent removal, a smooth steel works best to work the metal back into place, realigning the edge.

HandAmerican is a good source for supplies, among others.

Have fun learning the new techniques! :)

okay i have been reading up on the asymetrical grind sharpening and they seem to use the ceramic rod and strop method, what side of the blade "when i am holding it" do i use the ceramic rod on and what side is the strop used on? all i know about the grindes that i have is that the right side has a large bevel and the left side has a very narrow bevel. can you please update me on the terminolgy for on what these edges are? sorry for the ignorance, thanks for all the inputs.

Use the steel on the "thin" side and the strop on the "wide" side. Think about it in terms of contact area. With the steel, you are only realigning the very edge of the blade. The strop is smoothing the entire convex face.
