Sharpening Basics

Hey there!
I just got my first folder which is a kershaw volt 2, I'm very new to knives and I want to know what is the difference from a wet-stone and a diamond stone(which of them needs water?)?
I've seen videos on how to sharpen knives but I don't know anything about the sharpening stones.
Quick question, why are there some sheaths that has a small pocket for a sharpening stone while all the videos I saw use large big chunky stones?

I am no sharpening expert, but I have a Kershaw volt ss, which has the same cr13mov steel, and I use wet stones (with water). The 8cr13mov gets surprising sharp.
