At the MWKK, Warren and I got to talking about convex edge sharpening techniques. This idea popped into my head and I finally got around to making a prototype. The block is made from 2 pieces of 3/4" LDF glued together. 2 spring paper clips screwed to the ends hold strips of abrasive paper or cloth securely. I used the usual piece of mouse-pad rubber for the surface. Then it occurred to me, why not glue another piece of mouse-pad on the bottom for a non-slip base?
Watcha think?

I had been thinking about something like that too. Can you give a closeup of the clips? I can't quite make out the style. Thanks for sharing. I definately want to make one.

Had something sima;lar in mind.

rather than pad,
gap under the sand paper
using the strip rolls from Harbor frieght
and adjust the tension as desired.

Just want to figure out a simple tensioner.
One of these days........

& just saw something simpler but more elaborate at the Arms Show
couple of weeks bback.
Fellow was selling -big- adjustable version
for shaping rifle stocks.
It was in 2-pieces that slid together,
you expanded it to tighten tension on the sandpaper.
Probably I'll end up with something similar
when I get a round toit.

Quick and easy stropping block for convex.....

piece of wood a couple inches wide and a foot or so long, go to your local fire dept, they will more than likely be glad to give you a couple of feet of fire hose that is worn out. the fire hose is heavy canvas on the outside with rubber inside, glued to the board it seems to have just the right amount of give. I'll try to post pic tommorow, still trying to figure out how with new computer.

Spent a little time today with a 12" sirupati. Convexed the edge and re finished the blade to 400 grit. polished the edge to 1,000. Then I thought, after my nightly flossing, will this thing pass the free-hanging floss test? Yup! :D

Yikes!!!

From the trail under your nail, it looks like you clipped yourself a good one there Bri...

Thanks Ray, but the major injury was to my self esteem. I can't be trusted with anything that sharp. :o
Live and learn, right?
