Sharpening Browning 580 Comp knife

This is my first convexed edge blade. I have diamond stones, EdgePro Apex and a Sharpmaker. Also have a 2 by 48 in belt sander that I can move the platen on to do slack belt grinding, but have never used that to put a final edge on a blade.
Using the Sharpmaker, set to 20degrees per side, I noticed that in some places it is sharpening the edge but in others it is well back from the edge.
I have no experience with convex sharpening. Seems like it be easier to use the Apex to set a consistent bevel and maintain on the Sharpmaker.
Any thoughts?

You don't want to put a stright bevel on it, it won't preform the same.
