Sharpening Burnt Drill Bits?

Is it possible to sharpen a burnt drill bit so that it works again? I toasted one of my new ones and was wondering if I could sharpen them past the burn point.

Yes. Hard to describe how in words but learning how to do it is something you'll never regret.

If it is truly burnt, it may be a lost cause. If it is only dulled, then it can be re0sharpened. The simplest tool for the job is a Drill Doctor.

It depends, is it HSS High Speed Steel?

or is it Carbon steel?


Learn how to hand sharpen a drill, also get a drill doctor

Throw away carbon steel drills.
Often hidden in hardware store sets - not disclosed properly

Resharpen HSS-you didn't burn it.
