sharpening busse

what is the belt sander you use? Variable speed important? I would appreciate any information you can share.
Cheers
Patrick

I use the Delta S180. It can be bought from Home Depot and is a decent belt sander for sharpening. I got mint off of Craigslist for about half-off brand new. I buy the belts from TruGrit.

thanks the knife is great went up camping over the weekend got a lot of use out of it hiked up to some frozen lakes used it to chip the ice and get water cut some wood still razor sharp just checking want to keep it up on my 3rd busse in like a month need to stop know but there are so many

I took my ash-1 (convexed and satined by norcal) out hunting, I cut up a lot of sapplings and brush to make a good shooting lane. I dulled it pretty bad.

5 minutes on my sander tonight had it doing this.

Belts from leevaley, 1x30.

Used a 15 micron for a touchup and then the leather belt with .5 micron compound on it.

LOL....making a fuzz stick out of a human hair!!! Never seen that before....that's the most impressive "shapness" test I have seen....great edge 230:thumbup:

The most impressive I've seen was push cutting toilet paper, but hair whittling is right up there. Very awesome feats either way.

My belt sander-fu is not up to par. I can do hair shaving sharp, but hair whittling is beyond me.

I tried to go "whittle hair" last night after I saw your picture 230. NOPE. Not there yet.

do you need a belt to get it "hair shaving" sharp or can you achieve it with other sharpeners?
