Sharpening Combo Blades

Hey guys, I have only recently gotten into BM's combo edges. I really like their serrations, and they cut great. I bought some of the Spyderco file set sharpeners, and I have some profile stones as well as a Sharpmaker. I just take my time, and strop the back, every 3-4 passes on the stones. My serrations will shave with ease, and cut like hell.

I'm just curious, how does everybody else do theirs? I am always up to learn new stuff.

I just got my first combo edge knife couple months back and will attempt to sharpen the serrations on my Sharpmaker using the angle side of the stones. Doesn't look to hard if you go slow, doing like you said hitting the back every 4 passes or so.

Maybe someone could teach the people at Benchmade who handle the lifesharp warranty as they don't even know how to sharpen their own serrations lol.

For serrated knives I use a diamond rattail followed by my Edge pro ceramic rod. A swipe on the backside knocks down the burr and am back to work. On the LifeSharp comment; for whatever reason Benchmade doesn't offer sharpening of serrations, I might not suggest they don't know how to sharpen their knives. If you have some ideas on how to improve their service, why not call them to discuss what they can do better? 800-800-7427 is the number.

While I really don't care for serrations and don't (won't) have any of Benchmade's, my wife likes them for bread, etc. For them I use a Work Sharp and give a couple swipes on the back side. It's quick, works well, and my wife is happy!

I don't use them anymore but when I did I honed the serrations by hand and used a buffer to polish and deburr. Scary sharp.
