What gear do you use to sharpen your CPM 4V blade? I've got a Malanika puukko in 4V on order.

Thanks

I use diamonds, ceramic, and a loaded strop. I have heard that diamond paste works phenomenal on 4V, but I don't own any yet.

Diamonds: coarse, fine
Ceramic: 12K
Strop: black and white loaded

I have a X-fine and XX-fine DMT Diafold otw, and I am grabbing some balsa tomorrow for a new strop. I have been wanting to try materials other than leather.

I use ceramics personally ... but something like the DMT diamond stones or the Diamond Diaspray should work.

If you find a good source for the balsa I'd appreciate a pm ... I've been looking with not much luck yet.

Thanks JJ

My local A.C. Moore has a huge inventory for folks that make models. If you don't have that store nearby, check out your other local hobby and craft stores.

If you can't locate any tomorrow, get in touch via Conversation and I will send you some in a flat rate, just toss me some coin for shipping. No charge for the wood, since I am buying some for myself, I will grab two boards.

I posted this (verbatim) in another thread a few weeks ago (4V @ 63-64 RC):

SP #400 (30 +/- 2.0 μm) arrived yesterday. Not D3V but I would expect the same results in a shorter amount of time this being 4V. Dulled the edge against the stone to see how fast #400 would cut, it only took 40 or so passes per side to obtain a lightly sticky, working edge. Little to no slurry. Finished on the SPS II #3000 (4.0 +/- 0.5 μm).
