Ok, genuine question, how hard is it to field sharpen carothers D3V? I've had that question for a bit. Thanks!

Diamond hones are recommended. It's what Nathan uses, and so do many of us.

Silicon Carbide will work more slowly.

What does "field sharpen" mean? Like on a rock from the river? It's probably going to suck, just like every other modern steel. Folding DMT hone or similar? WIll be fine.

Composition looks similar to D2, with most of the wear resistance in chromium carbides. If the steel behaves similarly to D2 in terms of wear resistance, I've always favored diamond hones for finishing the edges on D2 blades. Silicon carbide (SiC) and diamond will grind D2 easily for rough shaping of new bevels. But for refinement and follow-up sharpening, I've always felt the steel finishes & refines better using diamond on D2's BIG chromium carbides at the edge.
