I know alot of you guys prefer convex edges. But what are the best sharpening devices for Busse's with the shop edges/bevels
for the woods or outdoors when your away from home.

Doug,

I was looking at these figuring i could put one or two in my multi tool pouch on the front of my main big knife sheath. Has anyone used one of these yet.
They are diamond coated and are 1" by 4 inches. Would they be big enough though for sharpening a Fsh or Bm.

They will work. I started off with something like that but like something with a handle in the field.

Spyderco Sharpmaker for home, camp, or in the truck. Maybe a DMT Diafold for field.

Thanks Guy it seems like so far some type of diamond impregnated rod or stone seems to be the choice. I am looking for something light weight to attach to my sheath.
Without it being any heavier than possible.

I believe the Boss recomends a ceramic rod. Check the Busse website in the infi facts. They are pretty easy to carry and use. I have an edgepro but dont consider them very field friendly. For shop use v grind paper wheels but again, not field friendly. The ceramic rod would be hard to beat. Cheap too.

Like mymindisamob I have a little EZ Lap Model M for field work, its a bit on the rough side at first but mellows out with time. If you dont like the heavy brass they do make an aluminum version that is very light weight.

At home I have a very fine diamond stick and a ton of other sundry items, lots of oil stones and ceramic blocks. Its a disease I tell yea! Collecting sharpening stuff is as bad as collecting the knives themselves.

Thanks Leatherman i think i'll pick up an aluminum version for the lighter weight factor.
And thanks to all for your various ideas on knife sharpeners.

I use my Sharpmaker sticks freehand at home and in the field now. I just need to get the diamond stones for when I really mess stuff up. I know it is kinda weird but the Busse knives really like a backwards strop on the extra fine stones.

DMT Diafold is the only thing I use even if at home.

I do not want to have one system for home and another for the field -- training scars.

Oh, yes!

Some day I must describe my early experiment with a laser-based sharpening system. Man ... the tales I could tell!!

ooh! Laser based! I detect a new fascination!

The wife's gonna kill me this time, and its all your fault OP! :p

What's them gigawatt systems going for now? :D
