Sharpening direction?

Hey guys; I have the WES and I take my blades to 1200/1600 grit. I find that I can slice toilet paper in one direction (push cut) because I use the motion "away" when I use the stones. I cannot cut that toilet paper when slicing or pulling the knife. Do you guys have a solution to make it more "even" ? should I do some passes the other way (sharpening towards the spine) to prevent this?
Thanks!
Note: I did a search but couldn't find anything:confused:

Don't have the WES, but go in both directions, so as to minimize the micro-teeth being in only in one direction.

I wouldn't suggest to vary the direction unless you want a very polished edge. What you may vary though is the direction of the teeth on both sides. Try e.g. right at 120 degree and left at -150 degree with a coarse stone. Avoid the scratches to be exactly perpendicular to the edge on both sides, or otherwise parallel.

Does it not cut because its too "catchy" and plucks at the fibers, or does the paper just bunch and wad up. Varying the angle of your grind path relative to the cutting edge creates subtle differences in cutting properties. I rake mine down (into the cut if I'm draw-cutting) about 40 degrees or so. It cuts finer with a slight push and more aggressively with a pull. You could always go for a neutral pitch and have the grind path perpendicular to the cutting edge. At that point it should cut the same both ways.

thanks for the answers guys! ;-) I'll try to mix it a little bit or just rake the knife
