Got my first Emerson, its the raven. I have a 204 just need someone to guide me in the proper way to sharpen it. Thanx

although a sharpmaker will work in a pinch, a flat stone is 10X better imho, the sharpmaker is great for everything but chisel grind emersons, i think the sharpmaker instructions include a part about sharpening chisel grinds, they can describe it better than me lol. i would get a norton fine india stone (a 2"X6" is like $15 or so) and use that myself though, faster/easier.

I have sharpened an older CQC7-A on my Sharpmaker 204. Basically, I matched the angle of the knife's edge against the Sharpmaker (the edge on the Emersons are not 20 degrees on that single bevel, so the knife won't be held exactly up and down. Once I got the angle, I was able to, with a little work, get quite a sharp edge on both the plain and serrated portions, but it took a bit of getting used to.

Whever I sharpen knives like the Raven, CQC 7, etc. on the SharpMaker, I turn it over and lay both rods in the base and use it like a flat stone. Putting some marker on the chisel edge will allow you to see if you are holding the proper angle. I just lay the back of the blade flat on the stone.
