Sharpening ESEE serrations

To sharpen the serrations on the Esee knives (the flat portion between the scallopes) can you use a stone or do you have to use the normal equipment for serrations? Also how do the Serrations stack up for effectiveness if you were in a survival situation? This was a gift BTW so no true clue here on their serrations.

a regular stone works just fine, the serrations on esee knives have been very effective in use for me.
