sharpening field pup

I am having difficulties sharpening the inside of the belly on a field pup. the belly itself to the tip and the edge from the hilt for an inch or so are getting quite sharp, but there is a spot I am missing in the middle of the cutting edge.

I am using sandpaper on the edge of a workbench cushioned by a small cloth. I am using a shallow angle and as I draw the blade back and pull to get the tip, it seems the only way to hit the inside curve of the belly is to lift the tip off the paper and to use the edge of the bench.

using this setup my other cutlery is satisfactory, but this knife has a bad spot. any suggestions? does this description make sense?

thanks.

I dont' have one, but from a picture it looks like it has a bit of a recurve? If so, you're doing it right... you have to work the recurve near the edge and manuever the knife like you are to contact the whole curve.

No biggie, just take a bit of practice.

Yeah, I have been working on it a bit today, and it seems like if I place a small block about 1.5 inches wide underneath I can get at that inside recurve area much better and maneuver the knife a little more.
